Health & Safety

Safety First: In our Workplaces, our Communities and the Environment

At RJMI, the safety of our people, the communities we work in and the environment is the top priority. We provide our team with the training and resources needed to ensure every workday is safe and incident-free.

Health, Safety and the Environment

Our commitment to health, safety and environmental stewardship extends beyond our worksites—minimizing risk and reducing impact while promoting sustainable growth in every project we undertake.

In collaboration with Nova Scotia Department of Environment, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and Strum Environmental, RJMI designed its Ship Recycling Facility to prevent any accidental release of contaminants into soil, water, or air.

At a Glance:

  • All processing occurs on a 2,500 sq.m. concrete pad with self-contained drainage and on-site treatment.
  • The facility features a full groundwater and stormwater catchment system.
  • Our on-site Environmental Management team conducts daily monitoring of air, water, and soil quality to ensure full compliance and environmental protection.

Low-Emission Recycling Practices

RJMI prioritizes low-emission methods using mechanical shearing and diamond saw cutting instead of oxy-fuel or plasma cutting. This significantly reduces airborne emissions during recycling.

All hazardous materials are safely removed by leading environmental abatement contractors, transported by licensed haulers and disposed of at federally approved facilities within Canada.

No hazardous waste is exported.

Our Policies

At RJMI, the health and safety of our employees, subcontractors, clientele, and visitors is a top priority. To maintain this commitment to health and safety, RJMI provides our team with the training and resources needed to ensure every work environment is healthy and safe.

RJMI’s Quality, Health, Safety, & Environment (QHSE) Management System is an internationally certified system that provides the framework for providing quality and safe services to our clients while minimizing the risk of injury or illness to all personnel on RJMI worksites.
