Hong Kong Convention on the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Vessels
The Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships came into force on June 26, 2025. It ensures ships are recycled safely, protecting human health and the environment. Applicable to ships over 500 gross tonnage on international voyages, the convention requires an Inventory of Hazardous Materials, mandates approved recycling facilities, and enforces ship-specific recycling plans.
